Fifth Year Geography Fieldtrip

Fifth Year Geography Students had a superb Fieldtrip to Oughterard and Salthill today.

First Stop in Connemara was at the SSE Renewable Energy Galway Wind Park, where we heard about Ireland's largest Wind Farm with 58 Turbines. We then went on a walking tour of the Park getting up close to the Turbines.

Second Stop was Glengowla Mines. Here the students learned about the valuable Lead and Silver mineral wealth of the area where up to 300 people worked down the mine shaft.

Final leg of the Fieldtrip was to walk the Promenade in Salthill, where students used their Coastal Processes Knowledge to look at Erosion, Rock Armour, Groynes, Deposition, and to examine the land reclamation in Salthill around the Seapoint area. A great day was had by all.
