HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL AND EXCITING NEW CAMPUS REDEVELOPMENT
St. Brigid’s College is a second-level school under the auspices of Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board.
Vocational education was introduced to Loughrea in 1932, and the present school building was constructed on its current site in 1983. Since then, St. Brigid’s College has developed a proud tradition of excellence in education and extracurricular achievement, earning recognition regionally, nationally and internationally through the achievements of our students. The school continues to grow and evolve to meet the changing needs of our school community.
The opening of our €2 million STEM building in 2015 marked an important milestone in the school’s development, providing modern facilities for Engineering, Mathematics, Science, Design and Communication Graphics, and Construction Studies.
Today, St. Brigid’s College is entering the most exciting and ambitious phase of development in its history. A Department of Education sanctioned extension, representing an investment of approximately €25 million, is due to commence shortly. This transformative project will double the size of the school, providing more than 30 new classrooms, a modern fitness suite, changing rooms, administrative offices and a fully equipped Special Educational Needs Unit. The development will also include the extensive refurbishment and remodelling of the existing school buildings, together with significantly improved traffic management and set-down facilities.
Planning is also underway for the development of state-of-the-art sports and playing facilities across the school’s entire nine-acre campus. Detailed plans for these additional facilities will be available shortly and will form an important part of the school’s long-term vision for a modern, inclusive and outstanding learning environment.
Together, these developments will future-proof St. Brigid’s College, provide exceptional opportunities for current and future generations of students, and establish the school as one of the most dynamic and state-of-the-art educational campuses in the region.
